German govt should prolong support to firms - Altmaier

German Economy and Energy Minister Peter Altmaier stated on Friday he intended to extend the government's support to companies affected by the COVID-19 pandemic until the end of 2021.

Altmaier expressed his hopes the government would adopt that decision before the parliament's summer break. He added he did not believe testing employees for coronavirus at workplaces was necessary. Still, he voiced his support for establishing more voluntary testing centers in companies.

Altmaier previously projected the German economy would return to its level before the start of the pandemic in the second half of 2022.
