German inflation at 3.9% in August

Consumer prices in Germany rose 3.9% in August compared to the same month last year, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said on Friday, thus confirming its provisional estimate. The figure marks a slight increase from July's annual inflation rate of 3.8%.

Goods prices jumped 5.6% year on year, with energy prices surging 12.6% and food prices rising 4.6% compared to August 2020. Meanwhile, services prices added 2.5% on an annual basis.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices in Europe's largest economy remained unchanged. The harmonized index of consumer prices for Germany increased by 3.4% from August last year and gained 0.1% month on month.
