German minister warns against Christmas travel

Incoming German transport minister Volker Wissing on Sunday warned against Christmas travel and big group celebrations, as the country's 7-day incidence rate witnessed a slight decline following record highs throughout November.

"In the current situation, it seems more sensible to spend Christmas in a small group at home and not to plan big trips across the country ... Winter 2021 will be more dramatic than winter 2020," Wissing told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

The advice is in stark contrast to United Kingdom deputy prime minister Dominic Raab's earlier statement that his country could enjoy Christmas "the way we couldn't last year," thanks to widespread vaccination.
