German producer prices annually rise 5.2% in April

Producer prices of German industrial products increased by higher-than-expected 5.2% in April compared to the same month a year ago, according to the report published by the Federal Statistics Office (Destatis) on Thursday. On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 0.8% to meet estimates.

The increase in commercial producer prices was led by intermediate goods and energy. Intermediate goods surged 8.2% on a yearly level to mark the highest price increase since February 2011. Meanwhile, energy prices soared 10.6% in the same period.

The prices of durable goods climbed 1.6% year-on-year, while capital goods prices gained 1%.
