German producer prices rise 0.2% in December

Producer prices in Germany increased by 0.2% in December compared to the same month the year before, the country's statistical office Destatis unveiled on Wednesday. On a monthly basis, the index went up by 0.8%. Both the monthly and the annual figure differ from the analysts' expectations.

Energy prices remained almost unchanged on a yearly level, losing 0.1%, but gained 2.3% since the month before. Prices of intermediate goods advanced by 0.8% and 0.7% year-over-year and month-over-month, respectively. The prices of capital goods rose by 0.9% compared to December 2019, and 0.1% compared to November 2020.

Prices of durable consumer goods saw an uptick of 1.6% on a yearly level, and 0.1% in regards to the month prior, while prices of non-durable consumer goods slid 1.8% year-on-year and 0.2% during the past month.
