German producer prices rise 2.7% in December

Producer prices in Germany increased 2.7% in December compared to the same month a year ago, the country's national statistical office Destatis announced on Monday. In November, the producer price index was up 3.3%.

The index saw an increase in prices in all main industry groups with energy contributing the most to the rise. In December, prices for energy jumped 6.9%. Excluding energy, the producer price index added 1.6% compared to the same month in 2017. Prices for intermediate goods saw the same rise as prices for durable consumer goods, up 1.9% while capital goods rose by 1.4% and non- durable consumer goods prices grew by 0.5%.

On a monthly basis, the producer price index was down 0.4% in December compared to November.
