German producer prices up 0.3% in August

Producer prices in Germany increased by 0.3% in August compared to the same month a year ago, the country's national statistical office Destatis announced on Friday. In July, the producer price index was up 1.1%.

Electricity prices, which soared 6%, contributed most to the annual rise. However, energy prices as a whole decreased by 0.3% in August. Excluding energy, the producer price index added 0.6% compared to the same month in 2018. Prices of non-durable consumer goods rose 1.7%, capital goods prices were up by 1.5%, durable consumer goods prices added 1.3%, while intermediate goods prices grew by 0.9%.

On a monthly basis, the producer price index declined 0.5% in August compared to July.
