German producer prices up 2.4% in March

Producer prices in Germany increased 2.4% in March compared to the same month a year ago, the country's national statistical office Destatis announced on Thursday. In February, the producer price index was up 2.6%.

The index saw an increase in prices in all main industry groups with energy contributing the most to the rise. In March, energy prices surged 6.6% year on year. Excluding energy, the producer price index added 1.2% compared to the same month in 2018. Prices of durable consumer goods and capital goods were both up 1.6%, while intermediate goods prices grew by 1.1% and non- durable consumer goods prices increased 0.4%.

On a monthly basis, the producer price index was down 0.1% in March compared to February.
