German trade surplus up to €20.5 billion in March

Germany's non-adjusted foreign trade surplus stood at €20.5 billion in March, rising from February's figure of €18.1 billion, according to data released by Destatis on Friday. In seasonally adjusted terms, the trade surplus climbed from €19.1 billion in February to €14.3 billion in March.

Exports amounted to €126.5 billion, rising 1.2% month on month and soaring 16.1% compared to March 2020 when the first COVID-19 lockdowns were introduced. Exports to the European Union amounted to €67.5 billion, while exports to third countries stood at €59 billion.

Imports climbed 6.5% month on month and jumped 15.5% year on year to reach €105.9 billion, out of which €57.7 billion worth of goods came from the EU. Imports from third countries stood at €48.2 billion.
