German watchdog questions Siemens-Alstom tieup

Germany’s competition watchdog informed the European Commission (EC) in a recent letter that it shares the latter's concerns over the proposed Siemens-Alstom merger, various media reported on Sunday.

The country's Bundeskartellamt told the EC that it has its reservations about the potential deal and that it understands and has the same worries as the EC. The Bundeskartellamt also said that it did not believe that the remedies offered by the two companies in December alleviated the competitive concerns surrounding the matter.

The EC previously stated that the two companies' deal could negatively impact competition. It is due to make a decision on the case by February 18.
