Germany may relax incidence rate rules to ease lockdown - report

The German government is considering toning down prerequisites for the gradual easing of coronavirus pandemic-related lockdown, Business Insider reported on Tuesday, citing alleged documents from discussions between the federal and state governments last week.

According to the plans that are under consideration, the government could introduce new reopening steps every two weeks if the seven-day incidence rate remains stable under 35. The previous propositions entailed loosening restrictive measures if the seven-day incidence rate fell below 35, 20 and 10. As of yesterday, the seven-day incidence rate stood at 60.2.

On March 3, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and regional leaders will again discuss the future steps on how to handle the pandemic in the country.
