Germany: Only 1 COVID jab enough for 5-11 year olds

German vaccine advisory panel STIKO recommended on Tuesday that healthy children aged between five and 11 years should only receive one COVID-19 vaccine dose since the vast majority of them already had the disease.

"For children, we have to assume that the rate of spreading of the infection is the highest. That's why it's reasonable to administer only one vaccine," STIKO panel member Martin Terhardt said at a press briefing, contrasting opinions delivered by regulators in the European Union and the United States.

According to STIKO, around 77.5% of German kids in this age group have some degree of immunity against the coronavirus.
