Germany's daily COVID cases over 200,000 for first time

The number of new infections from COVID-19 registered daily in Germany surpassed 200,000 for the first time since the start of the pandemic, coming in at 203,136 on Thursday, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) revealed. The nation now counts a total of 9,238,931 cases recorded since the outbreak of the disease.

Meanwhile, the country's seven-day incidence rate, which calculates the number of people infected with the virus per 100,000 inhabitants, topped 1000 for the first time, standing at 1017.4. Moreover, 188 people died from the consequences of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours, taking the total death toll linked to the disease to 117,314.

The news comes on the second anniversary of the day the first official case of coronavirus was reported in Germany.
