Germany's finance minister against taxing 'excessive' profits

German Finance Minister Christian Lindner (pictured) said Sunday that Germany should not tax "excessive" corporate profits made in the midst of an economic and energy crisis, as this would disrupt market forces.

"To me, much and possibly everything speaks against a possible excessive profit tax when I think about it closely," minister Lindner told ZDF. "It would mean that we would offer up our tax system to arbitrariness."

Previously, Linder argued that Germany's "economic prospects have become fragile" while adding that the state should not benefit from higher taxes "at a time when daily life is becoming more expensive."
