Germany to expand electric car tax incentives - Scholz

Germany wants to aid the electric cars sales with an expansion of charging infrastructure and with tax incentives for another decade, the country's Minister of Finance Olaf Scholz told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on Wednesday, adding it was important "from the point of view of industrial policy that Berlin supports the currently limited country's support programs for battery electric vehicles and plug-ins by 2021."

The official's comments come following the BMW Group and Daimler AG's announcement of a strategic partnership with the aim of expanding "sustainable urban mobility," while Volkswagen vowed to start an "electric offensive."

Asked about the potential merger between Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank, Scholz denied pushing for the combination of Germany's two biggest banks, claiming their boards are "in the driver's seat, not the government." The ministry's task is to "talk to all the banks," he stated further, adding Berlin is interested in a strong banking sector.
