Germany to increase jab supply to prevent future pandemics
Germany's Health Minister Jens Spahn revealed on Wednesday the government plans to reserve up to 700 million COVID-19 vaccine doses per year by paying reservation fees to manufacturers so it can combat future pandemics.
Spahn explained the government will then be able to activate these contracts if necessary so companies developing vaccines could deliver them as fast as possible both to Germany and across the globe.
Germany hosts multiple companies involved in the process of creating medicines used in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, including vaccine makers BioNTech and CureVac as well as pharmaceutical firms Merck and Bayer.
