GfK: UK consumer confidence rises further in September

Consumer confidence in the United Kingdom continued improving in September, according to a report by GfK on Friday. After rising to a negative 25 in August, the Consumer Confidence Index now stands at a negative 21, higher than projected by analysts and reaching its highest point since January 2022. The Personal Financial Situation Index for the next 12 months increased from a negative 3 to a negative 2, while the General Economic Situation Index rose to a negative 24 from a negative 30 in August.

"While this month's improved headline score is good news, it's important to note many households are still struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and that economic conditions are tough. The reality is that consumer confidence remains suppressed, and the financial mood of the nation is still negative," GfK Client Strategy Director Joe Staton said.
