Ghosn's Japanese lawyer quits after his escape

Former Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn's chief lawyer in Japan, Junichiro Hironaka, confirmed in a statement on Thursday that he quit following Ghosn's escape from the country.

Although he did not overtly provide a reason for stepping down in the statement, Hironaka earlier stated he was "in shock" after hearing about Ghosn's "unacceptable" decision to flee to Lebanon.

In December, Ghosn announced he escaped the "rigged Japanese justice system" where he has been charged on several counts of financial misconduct during his time at Nissan. He maintains all allegations against him are false.
