GM warns Bolt EV users to not charge unattended

General Motors Co. is warning owners of Chevrolet Bolt EVs manufactured between 2017 and 2019 to not park their vehicles inside or charge them unattended overnight, CNBC reported on Tuesday.

The warning comes on the heels of two such vehicles spontaneously catching fire, one in May and one earlier this month. The Bolt EVs were supposedly fixed by the car manufacturers at the beginning of the year, following a global recall that was announced by the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in November 2020. The recall was sparked by alleged fire risks that Bolt EVs posed and included 69,000 vehicles.

In an emailed statement sent to CNBC, the car manufacturer stated that "safety is our highest priority, and we are moving as quickly as we can to investigate this issue" and that the move was done "out of an abundance of caution."
