Google adjusts responding to data requests from HK - report

Google LLC will stop directly responding to data requests made by Hong Kong authorities due to China's new security law, The Washington Post reported on Friday citing sources familiar with the matter.

The American tech giant will, therefore, start treating the autonomous territory the same as the rest of mainland China when it comes to such matters, the sources claimed.

After the decision goes into effect, Hong Kong police will have to seek Google's data through a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty with the United States, making a whole process lasting up to several weeks or months.
