Google appeals EU's $4.3B fine

Google Inc. said on Tuesday it filed an appeal against the European Union's decision to fine the company €4.34 billion in an antitrust case, the Wall Street Journal reported. The EU imposed a fine on Alphabet Inc's company due to an alleged abuse of Android operating system's dominant position on the market, the report said. Google declined to publicly comment on the issue.

Meanwhile, the company said it would not request the authorities in Brussels to halt the implementation of the European Commission's decision. The set deadline for the company to end the "anticompetitive" behavior is this month, in order to avoid additional fines.

Earlier today, Google held a launch event where it introduced its new smartphone Pixel 3 along with its larger version Pixel 3 XL. Google shares traded 0.63% in the red at 8:42 pm CET.
