Google to appeal €50M GDPR fine - report

Google will appeal its €50 million fine issued by France's data protection watchdog, media reported on Wednesday, citing a spokesperson for Google. The tech giant's representative said that the company will act due to concern on how this ruling could impact publishers, content creators, and tech companies "in Europe and beyond."

The penalty was imposed by the French data protection authority (CNIL) for failing to comply with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) after receiving several complaints. CNIL ruled that Google violated the obligation of "transparency and information" by making the information about data consent "not easily accessible for users" and "not always clear and comprehensive."
