Google to open first data center in Japan - CEO

Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed on Friday in an interview with Nikkei, that the company intends to invest ¥100 billion ($690 million) in Japan, through 2024, with part of the funding utilized to establish the company's first data center in the country.

The tech giant's CEO underlined, during his visit to Japan, the data center will be opened next year in Chiba prefecture, which will "give people in Japan faster, more reliable access to our tools and services, support economic activity and jobs, and connect Japan to the rest of the global digital economy,"

"We look forward to helping more people in Japan benefit from the opportunities technology brings, over the decade ahead and beyond," Pichai concluded.
