Google to remove ads for cryptocurrencies, CfDs

Google Llc unveiled a policy update, mirroring a move by Facebook, to say it would exclude advertisements for "unregulated or speculative financial products" including binary options, cryptocurrencies, foreign exchange markets and contracts for difference, (CFDs) in June.

Rolling spot foreign exchange futures and financial spreads were added to the blacklist. The digital currency ban incorporates initial coin offerings, exchanges, wallets and trading advice, changes showed. Certification for CfDs, perpetual spot forex and spread bets will still be allowed in some countries, the statement adds.

"We also updated our gambling ads policies to address new methods of gambling with items that have real-world value (e.g., skins gambling). And we will introduce a new certification process for rehabilitation facilities, allowing legitimate addiction treatment centers to connect with people in need," said Scott Spencer, who is responsible for sustainable ads in the Alphabet Inc.'s subsidiary. In a blog post, he stressed the search giant blocked 3.2 billion ads and 400,000 unsafe websites last year, including fake news and duplicated content.
