Google to splash $13B on real estate in US this year

Chief Executive Officer of Google Sundar Pichai stated on Wednesday that the company plans on spending around $13 billion on real estate across the United States in 2019, according to his blog post. The expansion will mostly focus on the creation of data centers and will provide Google with the opportunity to increase its workforce in the US.

"Today we’re announcing over $13 billion in investments throughout 2019 in data centers and offices across the U.S., with major expansions in 14 states. These new investments will give us the capacity to hire tens of thousands of employees, and enable the creation of more than 10,000 new construction jobs in Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Virginia," said Pichai.

Google's CEO also stressed that the new investment will help improve the company's products and services and will aim to "help billions of people and businesses globally." Pichai added that Google will also focus on increasing its renewable energy investments in the US as part of its commitment towards switching to renewable energy usage.
