Gove team rules out dropping bid, backing Stewart

The team of Tory leadership candidate Michael Gove ruled out the possibility of the United Kingdom environment secretary withdrawing his bid in order to back Rory Stewart.

"We are in it to win it and obviously we would welcome the support of any candidate that wanted to drop out and support us," a source from the Gove team told British media.

Earlier, Stewart said he was talking to Gove about "combining forces" in an effort to oust front runner Boris Johnson from the Conservatives leadership race. However, Stewart insisted that any pact between him and other candidates would have to have him as the leader and contender for the position of prime minister. In yesterday's ballot, Gove came in third, behind Johnson and Jeremy Hunt, securing 41 votes, while Stewart won 37 votes.
