Gove: We will 'certainly' move to reopen on July 19

United Kingdom Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove (pictured) stated on Tuesday that he believes the country will "certainly" move into the final phase of the reopening roadmap on July 19.

Speaking to BBC One, Gove warned that the coronavirus "will be with us for the foreseeable future" and urged people, particularly young adults, to get the vaccine, saying it was the "best protection" against the virus. Furthermore, he asserted that, while many things are unknown when it comes to COVID-19, the current vaccination rate indicates that the country will be protected at an acceptable level by mid-July.

Yesterday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the easing of coronavirus measures will be delayed by four weeks, and struck a similar tone to Gove on the new July 19 reopening date. Meanwhile, Public Health England reported that the AstraZeneca and the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines were 92% and 96% effective against the Delta variant, respectively.
