Guterres 'convinced' Russia won't invade Ukraine

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on Friday that he strongly hopes and believes Russia will not invade Ukraine.

"My message is that there should not be any military intervention in this context, I think that diplomacy is the way to solve problems," Guterres stated in response to a question on the tensions in Ukraine and Russia's potential intervention. "I'm convinced it will not happen and I strongly hope to be right," he added.

Moscow has insisted it does not plan to attack Ukraine but the United States warned that a Russian invasion could happen "at any point."
