Hancock: India on UK's red list for travel due to COVID

India will officially be added to the United Kingdom's red list regarding travel due to the outbreak of a new COVID-19 variant initially identified in the subcontinent, UK's Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Matt Hancock (pictured) announced on Monday.

Hancock stated that all British nationals who are re-entering the UK after returning from India will have to self-isolate for a period of 10 days in a government-approved hotel. The health secretary noted that the government detected no less than 103 cases of the new variant of the virus, stressing that most of these cases have been linked to international travel.

India saw record-high numbers of new cases and deaths on Sunday, prompting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to implement a 7-day curfew in the city. Earlier today, UK's Prime Minister Boris Johnson canceled his previously announced four-day visit to India.
