Hancock: UK's R number lowest since July

British Health Secretary Matt Hancock stated on Friday the so-called R number, which calculates how many people one person infected with COVID-19 can affect, had dropped below one for the first time since July.

That figure in the United Kingdom now stands at between 0.7 and 0.9. "We still have lots of work to do to defeat this virus, but we're making great progress," Hancock noted.

As of Thursday, the United Kingdom counts a total of 3,998,655 infections and 121,674 virus-related deaths. A total of 13,509,108 people received their first shot of a vaccine against the disease, while 524,447 also got the second dose.
