Hong Kong not frightened of any sanctions - Lam

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam (pictured) told the press on Tuesday the city will not be "frightened" by any punitive measures taken by foreign powers.

Her comments follow a decision made by the United States, to revoke the administrative region's preferential trade status under the recently passed Hong Kong Autonomy Act, which Secretary of State Mike Pompeo revealed will end US exports of defense equipment and sensitive dual-use technologies to the city.

Lam noted the administrative region has already prepared for sanctions to be imposed and assessed the restrictions will cause "little inconvenience," and that the effects on Hong Kong's technological innovation sector are expected to be "limited."
