House Cmte approves guidelines for Trump impeachment probe

The United States House Judiciary Committee voted along party lines on Thursday to approve guidelines for its impeachment investigation into President Donald Trump.

The resolution authorizes Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler to designate hearings run by the full committee and its subcommittees as part of the impeachment investigation. Additionally, committee lawyers will be able to question witnesses for an additional hour beyond the five minutes that are given to each member of Congress on the panel, while the White House counsel will be able to respond in writing to information presented to the panel.

"The president is in violation of the emoluments clauses of the Constitution as he works to enrich himself, putting the safety and security of our nation at risk. He has dangled pardons, been involved in campaign finance violations and stonewalled Congress across the board, noting that he will defy all subpoenas," Nadler wrote in his statement ahead of the panel vote. "No one is above the law. The unprecedented corruption, coverup, and crimes by the president are under investigation by the committee as we determine whether to recommend articles of impeachment or other...remedies," he added.
