House Dems probe Trump's alleged DHS chief pardon

Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Jerrold Nadler asked acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan for information regarding reports that United States President Donald Trump promised him a pardon if he blocks asylum seekers from entering the US, Axios reported. Nadler and the subcommittee chairman on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, Steve Cohen also instructed McAleenan to be available to testify before the panel.

Media reported earlier that Trump told McAleenan, who was the commissioner of Customs and Border Protection at the time, that he will pardon him if he gets sent to jail for violating immigration laws. Trump denied the reports as "fake." The allegations, however, prompted House Democrats to demand the release of documents related to the administration's plan on so-called "sanctuary cities."
