House GOP requests data on FBI's probe of Trump

United States House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland on Friday demanding information on the use of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the special investigation into former US President Donald Trump's handling of classified documents. Jordan argued that the "public trust in the FBI is low" following a report that accused the agency of mishandling another probe into Trump and that the Justice Department must ensure other investigations are not "poisoned by politicization."

Jordan asked Garland to provide information on the total number of FBI employees assigned to work on the classified documents investigation, whether any of those employees worked on any other matter concerning Trump, and whether the probe "relies on any information or material gathered exclusively by the FBI" prior to the appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith. The requested information should be provided by June 15, Jordan said.
