House panel recommends contempt charge for Bannon

The United States House committee to investigate the January 6 Capitol riot submitted a report recommending that the House find Steve Bannon in criminal contempt. The former US President Donald Trump's strategist failed to comply with a subpoena to testify on his role in the attack on the Capitol.

The committee claims Bannon participated in planning Trump's rally that led to a mob breaking into the Capitol, participating in a "war room" during the riots, as well as speaking with Trump about the effort. Contempt of Congress incurs a fine of up to $100,000 and imprisonment for up to 1 year, although these measures are rarely enforced.
