House speaker still not elected after fifth vote

The fifth round of votes for the next House speaker ended in a deadlock, with neither Republican leader Kevin McCarthy nor Florida representative, Byron Donalds, claiming the majority of the votes on Wednesday. Once again, McCarthy received 201 votes, while Donalds picked up 20.

Republican Representative of Colorado, Ken Buck, told CNN he previously advised McCarthy to reach a compromise with lawmakers who oppose his "speakership" or "step aside," giving a chance to Steve Scalise, Louisiana representative in the bid. Buck said the House is in "a state of disarray and chaos."

"The President [Trump] needs to tell Kevin McCarthy, 'Sir you do not have the votes and it's time to withdraw'," Republican Representative for Colorado, Lauren Boebert said before the lower congressional chamber.
