Huawei delays foldable phone launch until September

Chinese tech giant Huawei will delay the launch of its foldable Mate X phone until September, media reported on Friday.

The company had initially targeted a June release date for the device but postponed it in order to conduct further tests. A spokesman said that it was trying to launch the 5G-capable device, which was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in February, globally with a focus on markets that are equipped with 5G. It will retail for around $2,600 when it is released.

The news comes after Huawei competitor Samsung Electronics experienced several problems with its Galaxy Fold phone following its release. AT&T Inc. canceled preorders for the device on Thursday, becoming the second retailer to do so after Best Buy Co. Inc.
