Huawei initiates legal action against US ban

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. on Wednesday filed a motion for summary judgment on the United States National Defense Authorization Act, which currently prohibits US government agencies and its contractors from procuring its equipment under security pretext. In a press release, the Chinese tech giant also urged the US government to stop its campaign against Huawei, as it would "not deliver cybersecurity."

Huawei's chief legal officer Song Liuping stated that the US administration failed to prove that the firm was a security threat. "There is no gun, no smoke. Only speculation," Song added. A hearing on the motion in front of the Eastern District Texas court is set for September 19.

The media earlier reported that Huawei will seek to lift the ban which the US Commerce Department imposed on the company, as well as that the firm was expanding its US legal team. Huawei is currently working in the US under a temporary license it received from the US authorities after it was initially blacklisted by institutions in Washington.
