Huawei warns NZ customers over 5G ban

Advertisements paid by Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. appeared in media outlets in New Zealand this week, warning the readers about the negative effect of the ban on the Chinese company from participating in the buildup of the 5G network in the country.

"Without Huawei, New Zealand will miss out on the most advanced 5G technology available, and consumers may end up paying more for it," the ad warned, making a parallel with rugby, the most popular sport in New Zealand. "5G without Huawei is like rugby without New Zealand," it said. Among the outlets that published the ad are Stuff.co.nz, The New Zealand Herald and the Dominion Post.

Last November, New Zealand followed Australia in prohibiting the use of equipment made by the rising handset maker and telecommunications giant in the 5G infrastructure upgrade.
