Hungary might be unable to produce Sputnik V - FM

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto stated on Friday that his country might decide against manufacturing the Russian Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine as it could take up to a year and a half to set up the necessary technology. "If so much time is needed, it will be uncompetitive and we will probably have to focus only on importing it," he said in an interview on Russia24 TV channel.

Szijjarto added that the reason for this delay is compatibility issues between the new Russian technology and the existing capacities of the Hungarian pharmaceutical companies. He also claimed that this topic was discussed with Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko during his visit to Hungary.

Earlier in November, Russian media had reported the beginning of negotiations between Moscow and Budapest regarding the production of the Sputnik V vaccine in Hungary.
