Hurricane Nicholas hits Texas

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Tuesday that Hurricane Nicholas had made landfall along the Texan coast, with "heavy rain, high winds and dangerous surge ongoing." The storm's classification was officially upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane not long before landfall, with wind speeds of 75 mph.

Over 130,000 Texan homes have lost power according to the PowerOutage.US project. State Governor Greg Abbott issued a state disaster declaration in preparation for 17 counties on Monday.

The storm comes after the US was struck by Hurricane Ida, with an estimated damage bill of $20-30 billion and a death toll of at least 28.
