Hurricane Ian makes landfall in Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said on Wednesday that Hurricane Ian is making landfall on the state's west coast.

"Hurricane Ian is making landfall now. Florida is ready to respond. We have fleets of highwater vehicles, 42,000 linemen, 7,000 National Guardsmen and 179 aircraft prepared to help," DeSantis tweeted. According to the United States National Weather Service, the storm reached winds of 155 miles per hour as it neared Florida on Wednesday morning, getting close to becoming a Category 5 hurricane. "This is going to be a nasty, nasty day, two days," DeSantis said earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, the White House stated that the administration of President Joe Biden deployed "significant federal resources to the region to prepare for the hurricane."
