Inauguration with 25,000 National Guard members - Pentagon

The United States Department of Defense (DoD) announced on Friday it had assigned up to 25,000 members of the National Guard to preserve safety during President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration.

The news comes after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) received information armed protests were planned "at all 50 state capitols from 16 January through at least 20 January, and at the US Capitol from 17 January through 20 January."

President Donald Trump previously confirmed he would not attend Biden's inauguration. Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence said the White House was "committed to a safe inauguration."
