Inter-Korean military hotlines to be restored

South Korea and North Korea have agreed to reestablish key communication channels after a 13-month suspension, Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae) said on Tuesday.

The two sides are set to resume regular daily calls after South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un agreed to restore the severed communication line in a letter exchange that started in April, according to the Blue House.

On June 9 last year, North Korea completely cut communication with the South amid tensions on the peninsula over Seoul's alleged efforts to undermine the authority in the North by sending anti-government information into the country, after which Pyongyang entered areas disarmed under several inter-Korean agreements.
