Iran could build new nuclear reactor if JCPOA fails

Iran will restart the process of enriching uranium if the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is terminated, the spokesperson for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran said on Wednesday.

According to an interview with Behrouz Kamalvandi for the Young Journalists Club, the country is prepared to proceed with the construction of a new nuclear reactor in Arak as well if the so-called Iran nuclear deal falls through.

On May 8, United States President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA due to perceived violations of the agreement on behalf of Tehran. However, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered officials to continue adhering to the 2015 deal after agreeing on 7 conditions with European powers.
