Iran denies any links to Rushdie's attacker

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani "categorically" denied on Monday that Tehran had any ties with the attacker of author Salman Rushdie.

"We strongly reject the accusation," Kanaani stated during a press conference, adding that "no one has the right to accuse" Iran. Kanaani further asserted that "in this attack, only Salman Rushdie and his supporters deserve to be blamed and even condemned."

Previously, United States officials accused Tehran of inciting violence against Rushdie "for generations," stating that Iranian state media "recently gloated about the attempt on his life."
