Iran: EU incapable of bypassing US sanctions

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi stated on Monday that the European Union (EU) doesn't have the necessary mechanisms to replace the financial SWIFT system to bypass the anti-Iranian sanctions imposed by the United States, local media reported. According to the official, the bloc faces constant pressure from Washington, making the situation even more complicated since " Americans are doing everything to prevent such cooperation."

"In our opinion, the Europeans would like to complete the work on the mechanism, but this process has dramatically delayed. Europe has demonstrated that it does not have the necessary infrastructure in sufficient quantity to launch this financial channel," said Ghasemi.

In November, it was reported that the EU and Iran are working on establishing a new interbank channel of communication (SPV) to circumvent the US measures.
