Iraqi parliament passes bill to remove US troops

Iraqi lawmakers voted on Sunday in favor of a resolution that aims to remove foreign troops, asking the government to work on ending non-Iraqi military presence in the country. The bill will affect some 5,000 United States troops in Iraq.

During the extraordinary parliament session, Iraq's interim Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi asserted that Baghdad denied the attack on Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani as it was notified by Washington minutes before the operation started.

"Despite the internal and external difficulties that we might face, it remains best for Iraq on principle and practically," Mahdi said in his speech before the parliament, adding that Soleimani was on his way to meet him when he was killed near Baghdad International Airport.

On Saturday, the US-led coalition reported the attacks near its army bases in Baghdad and Balad as "fire landed outside of Coalition facilities and potentially harmed Iraqi civilians."
