Irish PM urges UK, EU to put 'every effort' to reach deal

Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin (pictured) called for the United Kingdom and European Union to put "every effort" to find an agreement on a post-Brexit trade deal, hailing the decision to resume the talks on Sunday.

"I welcome the fact that negotiators will resume their discussions on an EU and UK trade deal in Brussels tomorrow. An agreement is in everyone’s best interests. Every effort should be made to reach a deal," he said in a statement on Twitter.

Earlier today, United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen issued a joint statement after a phone discussion, saying "no agreement is feasible" unless two sides overcome differences on the level playing field, governance and fisheries.
