ISIS claims car bomb attack in northern Syria

Islamic State claimed responsibility for a car bomb explosion in Qamishli, Syria, a town located near the Turkish border, which on Friday took the lives of three people while injuring nine more, the Kurdish Internal Security Forces confirmed.

The town already suffered heavy shelling by the Turkish armed forces, during which prison in Qamishli was hit, leading to escape of five detained ISIS militants.

The United Nations reported earlier that thus far over 70,000 people left northern Syria since Turkey had started Operation Peace Spring. The operation, which was launched on Wednesday, already claimed a number of civilian lives. Ankara has since been fiercely criticized by its international partners, with the United States even threatening sanctions due to the unilateral military action.
